About the Camps

Kodev Wilderness Tented Camp was built in an untouched natural mangrove reserve, overlooking Kalpitiya lagoon and the Indian Ocean. Situated in Dutch Bay Island, Kodev offers a tantalizingly unique synergy of undisturbed and eco-friendly outdoor camping, luxury facilities. Which would only leave you with the best memories of this breath-taking peninsular where land and water converge in perfect symphony.

We are fully committed to conserve this spectacular environment and accordingly, our well-equipped tents are all constructed on available patched of bare land with no part of the landscape or mangrove especially cleared thus preserving the unspoiled natural state of the peninsular. All our power is solar generated; fresh water usage is carefully managed and none of the waste material escaped into the surrounding marine ecosystem. Camping accommodation designed to take you away from modern urban distractions and get you closer to the wilderness; therefore we don’t feature any televisions or telephones

Kite Surfing

The west coast of Kalpitiya is now renowned among kite-surfing enthusiasts for its quality and variety of kite-surfing locations. Kalpitiya lagoon and its strategic location has made it the perfect place for kite surfing, thus Kalpitiya has earned its position as the world famous for kite surfing.

Sperm Whale & Dolphin Watching

Sperm Whales are the most common. The Blue Whale (largest mammal in the world), Minke, Melon-Headed and Dwarf Sperm whales are also spotted in kalpitiya marine area. You’ll see whales along the coast, just metres beyond the Reef. However November to December and March to April showcases the sperm whales.

Snorkelling & Diving

The largest coral reef in Sri lanka is located at Kalpitiya, Bar Reef is the home for incredible Varity of species and fishes. This has made the Kalpitiya as one of the most attractive diving location in the island.

Wilpattu National Park

Largest national park in Sri Lanka, varying natural habitats; coastal belt, natural lakes (villus), rocky outcrops, scrublands, and open grasslands provides home for numerous species of animals. Among the species are 31 mammals. The biggest draws in Wilpattu are Leopards (Panthera pardus kotiya) and Sloth bears (Melursus ursinus). Apart from those two mammals are Asian Elephants (Elephas maximus), Spotted Deer, Barking Deer, jackals, sambhur, barking deer, mouse deer Wild Pig, Water Buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) and Mugger Crocodiles. This national park is the safe home for hundreds of Varity of animals and species.

Kayaking and Canoeing

The Blue Lagoon is one of the best locations for kayaking. showcasing the lifecycle of the reef as well as marine life interaction. Look out for soft corals, sponges, hundreds of marine fish.
