SoulTrek by all means is a responsible Travel agent that strongly believes that tourism, when done right, can change the world, and create awareness to make this world a better place. Preserving resources for the next generation, minimizing waste, lending a helping hand to the needy are some values that each individual in our team pursue.
Having said that we took the initiate to embark a worthy course by heading up on a road trip to Sigiriya.
Snapping out of the Monday blues we began our journey around 5.00 am and we managed to reach Dambulla by 9.00 am, stopped near a way side boutique to sip a hot cup of tea with some crunchy ginger biscuits. Yes! Sipping that cup of tea was a brilliant idea indeed as it boosted us to continue our journey. As we reached Habarana, The staff at the Other Corner Eco Lodge warmly welcomed us with a scrumptious breakfast, which was a kick start to proceed to our next destination.
By 10.30 am we reached “Galapitigala Vidyalaya”, guided by the friendly team at The Other Corner Resort. The school was a shabby little building, hardly had any kids around, and wasn’t difficult to locate amidst massive tress around.
Unwrapping the bags we brought along with us made the little kids stare at us with immense happiness and curiosity. We distributed parcels of necessities such as stationery items and the little kids were very grateful of it. They greeted and thanked us by singing a couple of songs as a gesture of appreciation.
Also not forgetting to inspect few hotels around Habarana area, we managed to cover Cinnamon Lodge, Habarana Village and the famous Aliya Resort & Spa. The hotel parceled us some snacks and nibbles for lunch.
After touring around Polonnaruwa sighting some important places we reached Hotel Sigiriya by 7.00 pm for dinner. Following day was an early start so we decided to hit the bed early.
The following day morning before the sunrise we had to start off our trek to climb the Pidurangala rock. The sunrise was at 5.55 am, it was such a beautiful scenery made us capture some candid snap shots.
After having lunch from Hotel Sigiriya in the evening we hit the roads again to buy dry rations from a nearby boutique as we had to distribute them to the needy families which was our ultimate goal of this trip.
The next day morning waking up to the sound of birds chirping on a bright sunny day made us feel that a pleasant day was ahead to explore. Carrying the parcels, we walked across a very narrow road to reach the families. Seeing their inner happiness through their eyes once they received the parcels was priceless. These families were grateful enough to offer us with some cool drinks to conquer our thirst.
Then we captured few pictures of those families and decided to frame it and hand it over to them as a souvenir.
Later in the afternoon we checked out from Hotel Sigiriya and went in search of another school to distribute the rest of the stationary packs, and headed for more hotel inspections.
Though it was a hectic schedule, sharing some love with the needy was simply priceless. With the impulse of continuing such worthy causes in future we concluded our trip with great Pleasure.
